Nuclear Reactions A nuclear reaction occurs when two species (known as nuclides) collide and produce a new species that is different from the ones that started the reaction. The reactions usually produce more stable species and release a tremendous amount of energy. The two types of nuclear reactions are nuclear fission and fusion. 1942: UChicago’s race to the first nuclear reaction. Scholars discuss the scientists at the University of Chicago who, on Dec. 2, 1942, achieved the first self-sustained nuclear chain reaction—as well as the implications of the historic experiment. Nuclear reaction definition is - a process in which the nucleus of an atom is changed by being split apart or joined with the nucleus of another atom.

In nuclear physics, a nuclear reaction is a process in which two nuclei or nuclear particles collide, to produce different products than the initial particles.

In principle a reaction can involve more than two particles colliding, but such an event is exceptionally rare. Download icidu driver.

If the particles collide and separate without changing, the process is called an elastic collision rather than a reaction.
